Outreach

In 2007 the Mission Action Plan of St Stephen\s Church formed an Outreach Committee with the objective of being:

‘a visible and caring member of the wider community’

St Stephen’s supports various mission programs and parishioners can choose where their contributions go.  Twice annually, in coordination with the Ladies Guild, we raise funds for food hampers for struggling families who have children at local primary schools.

St Stephen’s was approached by the chaplain at Bayswater Secondary College who asked us for help for their program providing Milo and counselling for kids who, due to low socio-economic status, often  come to school with no food in their bellies, a situation that is not conducive to good engagement and learning. We call it our Milo Ministry. Parishioners donate tins of Milo and/or money towards this program.

Outreach group also coordinates some social events for parishioners such as Winter warmer gatherings at local cafes or restaurants (see the Events page for details), soup and movie nights in the Church hall, ‘Blessing of the Pets’ service in October and Craft and Chat in the chapel.

Outreach is involved in mentoring primary-aged children at the Bayswater South Primary School with ‘Kids Hope Aus.’ More mentors are needed for this important program, so if you can spare one hour per week, please contact Jean Bellis at parish.ststephens@bigpond.com.

A women’s group gets together monthly for afternoon tea or lunch when a guest speaker or activity is enjoyed by all. Sometimes a visit to somewhere of interest is organised.
